Student Union Candidates Impress Their Constituents with Quality Speeches

Virginia International University (VIU) hosted the historic student union government candidate speech event at its campus on Wednesday November 6, 2019. The event featured three student union presidential candidates: Osemene Ejimnkeonye Martha, Olanbinwonu Temitayo David, andNazareth Sheryl. The twovice president candidates were Abimbola Awelewa and Jane Ogu.

Lucy Umuetok, a student at VIU, opened the event by singing the VIU anthem. Students joined in the singing, creating an atmosphere of festivity and camaraderie. The Master of Ceremony, Pius Kanemba who also doubled as the VIU Tiger mascot, did an amazing job of lightening the mood for the contestants and audience. The event was attended by VIUstudents and staff, some of whom made up the panel members. Attendees were treated to a sumptuous breakfast, great ambience and light music.

Each of the five contestants had the opportunity to present their campaign speech and answer questions from the panelists and students. All the contestants were outstanding, each in their own way, highlighting strategies in their election agenda on how to improve the Student Union and the students’ life experience at VIU. The event was also made available via live streaming to VIU community members who were unable to attend in person.

The success of this event will not go unnoticed without mentioning Ms. Inga Milosavljevic, the student experience manager who planned, organized and packaged the event in a very professional manner. We wish all the contestants good luck on the elections as the results will be announced today Friday November 8th 2019 by 5pm.
