On Tuesday, December 18th, 2018, Tysons Regional Chamber of Commerce Ambassador, Ms. Shay Mohajer, visited Virginia International University (VIU), located in Fairfax, VA, to meet with Dr. Watson, Dean of Undergraduate Studies & Business Dept. and Tanith Fowler Corsi, Academic Affairs & Collaborations, to discuss VIU community engagement.
VIU is invested in community engagement to showcase the diversity it has to offer the local community as well as forge new relationships with VA area businesses interested in providing internships and applied work experience to VIU students and graduates. Dr. Watson recently joined the Tysons Regional Chamber of Commerce Youth & Education and Women in Leadership committees and is actively pursuing cooperative agreements and continuing education opportunities with a variety of local businesses.
VIU, once primarily focused on attracting international students, has recently strategically reached out to domestic students who complement VIU’s diverse student body. VIU is currently comprised of 65% international students and 45% domestic students and its goal is to end up with a 50/50 split.
The University’s diverse environment, affordable tuition, flexible academic on-ground and online programs, and personalized student attention uniquely positions it to cater to busy adult learners seeking to add to their professional development as well as to undergraduate and graduate students looking for a personalized student experience.
In addition to its local community engagement, VIU partners with universities around the world to customize dual degree academic programs and continuing education programs geared towards both faculty and students. VIU is currently engaged with several Latin American and European institutions with the goal to foster increased cross-cultural engagement and learning.
