Virginia International University honors Constitution Day 2018 on Monday, September 17th. The VIU Student Affairs and the Library have planned an educational program that will share the meaning behind the ratification of the US Constitution.
Students and staff will have the opportunity to participate in activities that shed light on the US Constitution. As a culturally diverse university that has students from all corners of the globe, showcasing the highlights of a free and democratic society will be impactful as the lessons of our American History shape the future of our country and the countries around the world. The college students of today are the future leaders of tomorrow in government and in the private sector where the values of freedom and responsible citizenry can be employed.
Constitution Day was enacted as a holiday in 2004 per the mandate that publicly funded educational institutions and federal agencies provide education programming surrounding the adoption of the US Constitution. The US Department of Education announced in 2005 the enactment of the law that education institutions receiving federal funds of any kind honor this day.
Constitution Day has also been extended to recognize Citizenship in America as well as those individuals who have become new US citizens. Join us in celebrating this American holiday. The VIU campus community looks forward to our activities that honor Constitution Day 2018 on Monday, September 17th.
