VIU Receives Second Place Ribbon from City of Fairfax for July 4th Parade

VIU Receives Second Place Ribbon from City of Fairfax for July 4th Parade

On July 4, 2018, Virginia International University participated in the City of Fairfax July 4th Parade. The theme for this year’s parade was “live life connected.”

The Student Affairs Student Staff and Student Union worked hard on preparing the float for the July 4th parade. The day of the parade, VIU staff, student staff, and volunteers arrived at the City of Fairfax Parade around 8:00 am to do the last minute preparations for the float. Judging of all the floats took  place at 8:30 am. Roughly an hour later the judges came back and awarded VIU second place for the float! We were given two banners, one to hang in the front and one to hang in the back of the float.

Shortly after VIU received the float award, the City of Fairfax July 4th parade began. The Student Union President, Fredrick Fajuru and the Vice President, Choice Ogbuchi gave out candy to the children during the parade while the other VIU students walked the parade route or sat on the float while waving to attendees. This event was a great opportunity to show our students an American tradition.
