Virginia International University has welcomed and educated students from India since 1998. Our students of Indian heritage have been an integral part of our campus community over the years. VIU takes pride in the contributions of our Indian students who are campus leaders through our Student Organizations, as Community Volunteers, as Student Workers, and as Scholars. In September 2017, Mr. Prashish Shrestha, EVP of IT and Business Development, and Ms. Deborah Brent, AVP of Enrollment Management and Communications, journeyed to cities in Northern and Southern India to represent VIU at select college fairs. Helping students to explore their higher education options in the USA is a key mission of VIU that supports our commitment to diversity. Seeing the dedication of our Indian students and the sacrifices made by their families to help their sons and daughters invest in their education abroad is a true inspiration that enhances our campus culture.
The month of May 2018 has been dedicated to celebrating the local and international Indian community at various area events. VIU was a proud sponsor at the Heritage India Festival that took place May 12th and 13th at the Dulles Expo Center in Chantilly, Virginia and is a proud sponsor again at the upcoming Punjabi Mela that is being held at Bull Run Regional Park in Centreville, Virginia on Sunday, May 20th. These festivals contribute to the cultural richness of the Greater Washington, DC Metropolitan area. Northern Virginia is home to a vibrant Indian community due to the high concentration of STEM-oriented employers and government contractors utilizing their much-needed skills in the job market today. In the Fall, VIU will, once again, be partnering with Rushhi, Inc as a sponsor of the Diwali Festival. Our continued support of the cultural communities in our area speak to the core of VIU’s mission as a provider of “Higher education with a global perspective.”
