Hi! My name Ola, and I am the President of the Student Union. The student Union serves as a bridge between students and the school administration and the overall aim is to reinvigorate the school spirit make our campus life worthwhile. We are here to respond to questions, concerns and listen to your suggestions. Kindly feel free to approach any of us.
I am so excited to share some of the few things we have been able to do and also give insights into the activities planned ahead for us!

We started off with the Sumer Kick Off Fiesta on May 10th, 2017. It was a fun filled event with a lot of games played, music blasting from the sound system and with abundance of Nachos available. The event took place at the parking lot with a lot of students and staff in attendance.

We worked out a schedule for walk in hours with the help of our supervisor. These hours are basically to entertain students’ questions, complains, suggestions and requests. Visit our Facebook page to see the schedule.

The adventure club with the help of the Student Union has been able to put together two trips to Burke lake and Six flags planned for June 28th, 2017 and July 20th, 2017 respectively.

The soccer and cricket teams were reinvigorated with the help of the Student Union and local matches were organized. These teams still need more players and we are looking forward to having more students participate.

We assisted the Noble Nepalese club in the registration process and getting their logos done. We are closely working with the club to plan events for the next semester.

We were able to plan and set up drums and piano lessons for students in collaboration with the Music club. We are still accepting students for these lessons for the time being, limited offer though.

The inter school games will be coming up on July 12th, 19th and 26th 2017. The event is a games competition between schools. The games include Ping Pong, Foosball, Scrabble, Chess, Soccer Shots, Corn hole, Darts, Dominoes Chess, Jyngha, Karaoke. It promises to be a fun filled events, food will be available and presents will be given to the winners.

Last week, the VIU Student Affairs Department hosted a bowling trip for students. We went to a local bowling alley, and students competed in a bowling game together. The Student Affairs Department is trying to coordinate at least one monthly trip where students get to experience American culture and/or the local area. These upcoming events include:

  • Burke Lake Park: June 28 from 3:00 – 5:00 PM
  • Six Flags: July 20 from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM
  • Mini Golf at Burke Lake Park: July 28 from 3:00 PM – 5:00 PM
If you have any ideas or suggestions for a Student Affairs trip, please email them to

On June 13, 2017, the VIU Student Affairs Department hosted the third annual Diversity Luncheon Series: Ramadan Iftar Dinner. We had speakers from Christianity, Islam, and Judaism who explained the role that fasting plays in their religions. The attendees included staff, faculty, students and community members. We were also able to host members of the VIU Board of Trustees and the VIU Advisory Board. During this event, attendees were able to experience the Islamic tradition of breaking fast during Ramadan at an Iftar.

Our next upcoming Diversity Luncheon Series will be the Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration on September 27, 2017.

Keep checking the Student Affairs website, Facebook page and your emails for more information on upcoming events and activities!
