On Monday, May 26, 2014 Virginia International University will participate in the Falls Church Memorial Day Parade & Festival – and we want you to join us! All VIU students, faculty, staff, and their friends and family are welcome to join our group. We will be participating along with many organizations, marching bands, dance troupes, and other groups from the local community. Last year a group from VIU walked in the parade and had a great time. It’s the perfect way to participate in this festive American holiday!
What is Memorial Day?
Memorial Day is a federal holiday which honors servicemen and servicewomen who have died while in the Armed Forces. Americans often take this day to say thank you to all of their friends and family who have served or currently serve in the military. Some families also celebrate by having picnics with their friends and loved ones. Another fun fact about Memorial Day is that many Americans consider it the unofficial beginning of summer, since kids are coming to the end of the school year and the weather is getting warmer; as a result, many public pools open for the season on Memorial Day.
VIU will be closed in observance of Memorial Day on Monday, May 26. Take advantage of your day off and spend it with us at the Fall Church Memorial Day Parade & Festival! The event will last from 1:00 PM to approximately 5:00 PM. For more information about the parade and to sign up to participate, please contact Mr. Huan Vo at firstname.lastname@example.org or visit the Office of Student Affairs.
