The Inaugural Conference on International Development (CID), organized by VIU’s School of Public & International Affairs (SPIA), featured 27 influential presenters on various topics important to the development world; everything from industries and energy, conflict and development, regional integration, children and diasporas, as well as the most recent challenges and success stories of development were brought to the table.

Virginia International University is the proud recipient of two major awards in the 30th Annual Educational Advertising Awards competition. VIU received a bronze award for its 2015 VIU Calendar as well as a merit award for the third issue of University Magazine. This is a big achievement for the Media Department whose design and creative ideas brought the publications to life.

NainanDr. Mark Robinson, business professor at VIU, always finds ways to take theory to practical application for his students. Every spring semester, his BUSS 480 students are exposed to local entrepreneurs who are willing to share their business ideas and the skills they utilize in operating their businesses. On February 24, 2015, international comedian Dan Nainan – whose heritage is half Indian and half Japanese – visited Dr. Robinson’s BUSS 480 class where students are working to create a business plan for Mr. Nainan’s latest venture: the Clean Comedy Club.

On Saturday, February 28, 2015, VIU’s School of Public & International Affairs (SPIA), in conjunction with the Institute for Islam & the Sciences (IIS), hosted an interfaith workshop entitled Expanding Faith and Cultural Communities’ Cooperation in Fairfax County. Bringing together representatives from twelve different organizations, the workshop was a new step in identifying and expanding collaboration opportunities in the Northern Virginia area, especially in Fairfax. Eight speakers discussed their involvement with a variety of organizations, showcasing their latest projects and initiatives.
