On Thursday, January 15, 2015, Virginia International University will host its second day of New Student Orientation (NSO) for the Spring 2015 intake of new students. Students who attended the first day of orientation on January 7 are not required to attend but are invited to attend the Career Center presentation beginning at 2:30 PM. Shuttle service will be provided from Pender to Village Drive until 5:00 PM.
New Student Orientation (NSO) is a day for students to get acquainted with VIU’s campus, staff, and check-in procedures. The even will feature a presentation from the Career Center as well as presentations by academic deans.
NSO will also feature booths representing segments essential to newly arriving students such as:
- The Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV)
For licensing and identity purposes
- Local banks
To create new checking and savings accounts
- Public transportation services
Metro and shuttle services around and across Fairfax City
- Housing information
For a smooth transition from hotel rooms to semi-permanent dwelling
- Cellphone carriers
- Other shopping booths
The university’s own student clubs (including the IT Club, Indian Spirit, and the African Union) will be represented by student club representatives to provide information to new students. Student clubs are a great way for new students to become acquainted with other students and form new friendships.
The Admissions Office, the DSO, and other student service representatives will also be on hand to answer individual questions and meet new students.
The agenda for the day is as follows:
1:00 – 1:30 PM Information Fair & Refreshments
1:30 – 2:30 PM New Student Orientation
2:30 – 3:30 PM Career Center Orientation
